How It Started
The Caribbean Carnival 2024 festival officially began with the enchanting sounds of a Pan Fantasy steelpan performance, setting a vibrant tone for the day. This was followed by a heartfelt land acknowledgement, paying respect to the traditional custodians of the land, and the stirring rendition of the National Anthem preformed by the steelpan. The event was graced by several political figures, including local councillors, Queen’s Park representatives, and Federal ministers, all of whom came to show their support and deliver proclamations recognizing the festival’s significance.

Road Ahead for Carnival 2024
In a media press release, the FMC outlined their progressive plans for the festival. With the 60th year anniversary fast approaching, there is a renewed focus on a business-oriented approach. This strategy aims to solidify the festival’s financial stability and growth, with the full support of businesses and government. Despite distancing itself from the old “Caribana” brand as the festival continues to draw 2.3 million visitors to Toronto, contributing significantly to the city’s vibrancy. Notably, this year, the festival has partnered with Hotel X on Lakeshore Blvd., providing a VIP experience for guests. This partnership is a testament to the festival’s commitment to enhancing the visitor experience.
Ribbon Cutting and Performances
The highlight of the opening ceremonies was the ribbon-cutting by the renowned Patrice Roberts, who was joined on stage by CEO Mischka Crichton and GM Adrian Charles. This symbolic act, accompanied by a lively performance from young artists, officially kicked off the summer’s celebrations. Costumed performers will lead their respective bands in the eagerly anticipated street carnival in August.
